The Last Chance To Qualify Meet on Sunday is more than what the name implies. Besides giving athletes one last chance to earn a spot at the upcoming state meets, it also gives athletes that have already qualified in other events an opportunity to either increase their seed times or distances for a better heat or test their mettle in another event that they have yet to qualify for.
Here's some of the top athletes that have entered.
Littleton's Sarah Roffman will be looking to improve on her seed time of 3 minutes, 4.02 seconds in the 1,000-meter run. Roffman would appear to be ready to go sub-3. Last week, she won the two mile at the Coaches Invitational where she clocked a nation No. 3 of 10:46.31.
Brandon Hall of Hopedale, who dominated the two mile last week at Coaches with a 9:26.87 effort, will also be stepping down in distance. He's entered in the 1K where his seed time is 2:38.
The girls' mile will feature Newton South teammates Lucy Jenks and Caroline Barry, who will work together with hopes of a low five-minute time, possibly faster. Jenks captured the mile at last week's Coaches meet with a time of 5:07.63. Barry was the two-mile champion.
Hingham's Zoe Dainton will be focused on improving her state-leading effort of 5 feet, 8 inches in the high jump.
Innovation Academy's Aiden Felty is scheduled to compete in the shot put where he is less than three feet from a 60-footer.
